Windows screen-aware coding-agent overlay · Official-source review 2026-10-09
Claude Overlay is an MIT-licensed Windows chat overlay that uses the user’s logged-in Claude Code CLI through the Agent SDK. It captures screens for context and can read or change local files through the underlying agent.
Relevant to Windows users who can restrict screen capture and agent access before asking about local applications.
Windows 10/11, Python 3.10+ and installed/logged-in Claude Code required. Defaults capture every monitor on each message and grant broad autonomous permissions; read-only/window-only settings can reduce scope. Local UI does not mean local model inference: screenshots/content go through Claude. Word/PowerPoint attachment extraction sends text, not charts/layout; PDFs whole. Anonymous usage telemetry enabled by default with opt-out. Models follow account entitlements and alias updates. Subscription compatibility and permitted use require current provider terms. No install, screen capture, file edit, automation or permission-boundary test performed.
Inspect the repository and dependencies, start read-only with a harmless screen, reduce capture scope and review every file change before enabling broader agent permissions.

scritty is a terminal emulator that captures attributable turns from supported coding CLIs into a searchable local corpus. Agents can query shared memory through MCP, while people can search through the terminal or CLI.
Explore toolchat-recall stores coding conversations for full-text and knowledge-graph retrieval. It offers MCP access, analytics and code-related findings, with hosted and self-hosted deployment options.
Explore tooldot. hosts shareable AI-built prototypes and collects comments pinned to screen elements with visual and browser context. Its Claude/MCP connector advertises sharing from a conversation; other prototypes can be supplied by URL or artifact code.

MIT overlay code is free; requires a separately paid compatible Claude account/subscription. Provider usage and model limits still apply.. This record lists ongoing free access; check the plan limits before starting.
No paid monthly price is listed; this record treats the product as free to start. See the plan cards for entitlements, billing commitments and seat minimums.
